Week 1--introduction to social media

Social media is a very common thing in our life, but people will think of using social media as a way of strategy to their business. And yet I do not think is thing, instead it must be something can make conversation or deliver message among people in virtual reality. The impressive thing social media perform is to be related with reality, in other words, some of common examples like word of mouth in marketing strategy for a business can be spreading through online. Or marketers make use of email to replace letter drop box, personal selling of door to door.
From reading an extract chapter of Chialdini(chapter 7 Scarcity) that related to parental control for social media, I think it is a good idea a social media need to have control system when everyone use it in case of damaging it. It is the same that parents can control social media for their children to choose the best one for them, which that is why not every social media is suitable for all people.
As to reactance theory, I think if marketers want to increase the degree of impact of their products, they need to influence the whole community of the individual, in other words, not only does marketers influence the individual but must be affected the individual within their relationship circle, like friends, family. The more marketers influence in groups, the more awareness can be gained.
Here I can think of some examples in our life related to the 6 dimensions of influence (namely Authority, Charisma, Emotions, Expertise, Gruopthink, Trends), some of examples like students, they might be more easily influenced by headmaster than teachers to the motivation of studying, taking part in social activities due the attraction of shows, or we would be influenced by our emotion when it comes to decision making to purchasing, or most of time, we would adopt scientists or experts’ idea as truth as opposed to listen uneducated person, or we accept the idea the most of members of group agree with toward a particular topic even though minority of people disagree, and we might be influenced by most of our friends who have popular interests on basketball or electronic products.
However, when it comes to facebook page that associated with the factor of authority, charisma and expertise. Most of people might feel a sense of uncertainty if they do join the platform as facobook has a huge impact in the field of social media and affect the world, apart from this, there are lots of social media tools available for people, but people tend to be favored by facebook due to the function of searching friends. Actually I do not think facebook has high expertise than other tools, but it knows how to capture what people need online and people regard it as a intelligent platform.
